NEW: A Career in Anaesthesia – 4th October 2023

The Royal College of Anaesthetists is holding an informal session for medical students and foundation year trainees who are considering a career in anaesthesia. The event will focus on the general aspects of the specialty. I have now attached the events programme for the day.

Anaesthetists form the largest single hospital medical specialty, and their skills are used in all aspects of patient care. Whilst the perioperative anaesthetic care of the surgical patient is the core of specialty work (and this includes all types of surgery from simple body surface surgery in adults to the most complex surgery in patients of all ages, including the premature newborn) many anaesthetists have a much wider scope of practice.

The career day will provide an insight into life as a trainee and consultant anaesthetist.

Sessions include:

·         life as an anaesthetic trainee

·         assessment and supervision of training

·         recruitment and application process

·         pre-hospital emergency medicine

·         intensive care medicine

·         question and answer group sessions

·         the future of the specialty, skills required and life as a consultant.

The programme is still under development, however, booking information can be found Click here for the RCOA Website
