Reminders
Reminder – self development time
Recommendation #14 of the foundation review was to ensure all foundation doctors have time formally included in their work schedules for non-clinical professional activities and that this would be called ‘self-development time’.
From August 2020, all English trusts with foundation doctors will be required to include self-development time in the work schedules of foundation year two (FY2) and then if possible for foundation year one (FY1) doctors. FY2 doctors will have a minimum of two hours per week self-development time. FY1 doctors to have a minimum of one hour although not mandatory. There will be full implementation of Self-Development Time for all Foundation Programme trainees from August 2021.
Further information and case studies is available on https://www.hee.nhs.uk/our-work/doctors-training/foundation-review

Information for UK Graduates:
- Once you have your Full Registration in place you must connect to the relevant Responsible Officer for Revalidation. Please use the table below to establish who this is:
- Please be mindful of the timings involved as every year we have a number of Doctors who leave it too late to apply and this impacts on their training.
- It is your responsibility to ensure you apply for full registration in time for commencing your F2 training and it is important you understand the implications of failing to do this so please ensure you read the instructions from the GMC carefully.
Information for Non-UK Graduates:
*AMENDMENT*
In a previous bulletin, we issued guidance that all North London trainees should connect to Dr Gary Wares. Since this announcement there have been further discussions locally and the decision has been made that North West London Foundation School trainees should connect themselves to Dr Sanjiv Ahluwalia (Health Education North West London).

- It is essential you do not connect to a NHS trust and do not contact the Responsible Officer asking them to connect to you. You must do this yourself by following the guidance on the GMC website: https://www.gmc-uk.org/registration-and-licensing/managing-your-registration/revalidation/my-db-tool/na8-neither-of-the-above?previousPc=70

Applying for your Full Registration
Please note the Foundation school will notify the GMC of any Doctor eligible for Full Registration following a successful F1 ARCP Outcome but it is entirely the trainees responsibility to make the application and pay the relevant fees, and failure to do so may lead to a delay in your training. Please refer to the GMC website and guidance provided by them as to what you need to do and when:

The RCR academic Radiology CRASH! podcast
As the Royal College of Radiologists 2020 Roentgen Professor, I had been tasked with inspiring academic radiology and research in radiology trainees. However COVID-19 has dramatically changed how I have been able to do this. In response to this challenge, I have developed a new interview series with the RCR called the CRASH! podcast, in which Clinical Radiology Academics Speak Honestly!
In this podcast, we progress up the career ladder talking to radiologists at all levels involved in research about their background, experiences, and plans ahead. We also take a lighter view on life with our guests taking the CRASH! Test.
Radiology faces distinct challenges in developing our academics of the future, yet the opportunities are exciting and constantly evolving alongside remarkable new technologies. We need to engage trainees in ways that we have not traditionally considered...
As such, I would be extremely grateful if you would be able to facilitate sharing news of the CRASH! podcast release in your academic networks so that trainees across the board can find out more about what a career in Academic Radiology might involve.
Episode 1 is currently available from the RCR website and PodBean, soon coming on other platforms…

VITA Network - Modern slavery and Human trafficking
Modern slavery and human trafficking is a health issue.
There is an increasing amount of research documenting the significant impact of MSHT on the physical and mental health of victims and survivors, but we also know this is not limited to an individual.
MSHT is also a public health issue, stemming from vulnerability, inequality and poverty, whilst selfperpetuating and contributing to detrimental social determinants of health. We believe it is necessary to address MSHT from a public health and health perspective in order to tackle this crime in a personcentred and effective way.
VITA Network aims to do this by connecting, equipping and mobilising individuals and organisations invested in MSHT prevention, intervention and survivor-care from a holistic health perspective.
Please see this letter for more information.

CoPE-HCP: COVID19 disease and the Physical and Emotional wellbeing of Healthcare Professionals
The COVID-19 pandemic has led to unprecedented strain to healthcare systems, worldwide, and posed unique challenges to the healthcare professionals and the general public. We anticipate that these changes may have a physical and emotional impact on the healthcare professionals, more than the other professionals.
We would like to invite you to share your insights and experience with us in the CoPE-HCP study. This study involves collection of anonymised data in form of survey (of approximately 15 minute) exploring the physical, psychological and social effects of the current pandemic on healthcare professionals and compare that with the other non-healthcare professionals.
We hope to improve the support provided to healthcare professionals/ NHS staff members in such challenging times. The information collected from this study will be pivotal in helping us do so.
You have been invited because you are one of the following:
(i) A healthcare professional in direct patient contact, or
(ii) Healthcare/Hospital administrative staff not in direct patient contact, or
(iii) Non-healthcare / Non-hospital staff: academic, university staff or other professional
Please contribute to improving the well-being of healthcare staff.

Extract from Horus:
“The importance of the Placement Supervision Group (PSG)
The UK FP Curriculum Delivery Group have developed a helpful one-page information sheet (available on the UKFPO’s Sharing Best Practice page) on the importance of using the PSG to gain robust feedback about all foundation doctors (and specifically not just those who may require additional support).
The PSG is part of the FP Curriculum 2016 and will be a part of the new curriculum as well.
Please make your Foundation Programme Directors (FPDs) and medical education managers aware of this guidance and encourage the use of the PSG feedback tools in the e-portfolios.
