  1. Select the Foundation School you are due to start with in August 2020
  2. Under “Register”, enter your email address and click “Get started”.
  3. You will be asked to provide the following information:
  • Name
  • Email address
  • Telephone number
  • Professions
  • GMC number (may be referred to as (Professional Number)
  • Start year (i.e. year you started Foundation Training)
  • NHS Trust
  • Foundation School
  • Password (this is self-chosen)

  • Please be mindful of the timings involved as every year we have a number of Doctors who leave it too late to apply and this impacts on their training.
  • It is your responsibility to ensure you apply for full registration in time for commencing your F2 training and it is important you understand the implications of failing to do this so please ensure you read the instructions from the GMC carefully.

Applying for your Full Registration

Please note the Foundation school will notify the GMC of any Doctor eligible for Full Registration following a successful F1 ARCP Outcome but it is entirely the trainees responsibility to make the application and pay the relevant fees, and failure to do so may lead to a delay in your training. Exceptional swaps due to COVID-19

 

As the training programmes of many recent F1 doctors needed to be changed because of Covid‐19, exceptionally this year we are facilitating some additional local (single placement) swaps for this cohort.

Please note the programme balance guidance below.

The application window for this will be open from 1 September 2020 to 16 October 2020

1. Swaps to enable experience in an additional speciality e.g. paediatrics

These will be available for the final (April to July 2021) placement only

2. Exceptional swaps on educational grounds

Swaps may be approved for the second or third placement in the F2 year (December – March or April ‐ July) on the grounds of educational imbalance and consequent lack of opportunity to fulfil foundation requirements.

These will generally be due to COVID‐related changes, such as the April ‘pause’. Affected F1 doctors did not rotate to their final placement and as a result missed out on necessary experience such as Medicine, with their overall programme not conforming to the foundation school guidance below.

If you feel that you have exceptional circumstances and need to swap for other reasons, which do not fall into either category, you should also discuss with your FPTD in the first instance.

If you wish to submit an application for a complex, e.g. 3‐way, swap please also send details on a covering e mail, including details of the proposed 2 year programmes for each doctor concerned this should be submitted via PSP

Ordinarily your two-year programme should contain no more than:

  • 8 months in a surgical specialty
  • 8 months in a community specialty
  • 4 months in a psychiatry placement

Generally, you should not repeat a community specialty (e.g. GP, community paediatrics) but it may be possibleto repeat one medical, surgical, or other sub-specialty. Please note only one applicant need submit the request to swap but applicants must be copied into the request.

CoPE-HCP: COVID19 disease and the Physical and Emotional wellbeing of Healthcare Professionals

The COVID-19 pandemic has led to unprecedented strain to healthcare systems, worldwide, and posed unique challenges to the healthcare professionals and the general public. We anticipate that these changes may have a physical and emotional impact on the healthcare professionals, more than the other professionals.

We would like to invite you to share your insights and experience with us in the CoPE-HCP study. This study involves collection of anonymised data in form of survey (of approximately 15 minute) exploring the physical, psychological and social effects of the current pandemic on healthcare professionals and compare that with the other non-healthcare professionals.

We hope to improve the support provided to healthcare professionals/ NHS staff members in such challenging times. The information collected from this study will be pivotal in helping us do so.

 You have been invited because you are one of the following:

(i) A healthcare professional in direct patient contact , or

(ii) Healthcare/Hospital administrative staff not in direct patient contact, or

(iii) Non-healthcare / Non-hospital staff: academic, university staff or other professional

PSG Now Mandatory for all Foundation Trainees

“The importance of the Placement Supervision Group (PSG)

The UK FP Curriculum Delivery Group have developed a helpful one-page information sheet (available on the UKFPO’s Sharing Best Practice page) on the importance of using the PSG to gain robust feedback about all foundation doctors (and specifically not just those who may require additional support).

The PSG is part of the FP Curriculum 2016 and will be a part of the new curriculum as well.

Please make your Foundation Programme Directors (FPDs) and medical education managers aware of this guidance and encourage the use of the PSG feedback tools in the e-portfolios.

Geriatrics for Juniors conference

The Association of elderly medicine are hosting a virtual conference on Saturday 21st November 2020, aimed at promoting the specialty to Junior doctors. 

The conference will include, career advice, Q+A sessions with current registrars, educational sessions on a range of topics and a certificate of attendance for your e-portfolio.

In 2018–2019 the HEE Foundation Programme Review heard evidence from a wide range of stakeholders, including foundation doctors, about the difficulties faced by those entering foundation training from medical school.  A number of recommendations were made and this pack outlines progress and contains practical information to assist with implementation.

2020 Medical graduates - Invitation to participate in research

Newcastle University are leading a new study, funded by the GMC, which will be looking at the experience and wellbeing of doctors who have graduated in 2020, in the UK during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

It will involve you taking part in a number of online questionnaires over the next 6 months, with the opportunity to take part in an interview about your experiences, later in the year. Participation is entirely voluntary and you can withdraw at any time.
