APPLYING TO SPECIALTY RECRUITMENT
A series of webinars have been organised to provide Foundation doctors with the information required to assist them in applying for specialty training vacancies.
Delivered by Clare Wright, National Specialty Recruitment Manager for Health Education England, the webinars will run through the entire application process, providing data on previous recruitment rounds and some top tips on avoiding problems. Whilst the information will relate specifically to recruitment for posts commencing in 2021, the webinars could still prove useful to those in Foundation Year 1 who wish to get an idea of what the recruitment process will entail.
To Book a place on a session email mdrs.nationalrecruitment@hee.nhs.uk stating the date that you would like to book.

REMINDER - Programme Fair 2020 - Friday 20th March 2020
For 2020, the national recruitment timings have changed and it is necessary to have an all schools joint event (South Thames, North Central & East and North West London) – under one venue roof, but on the same day. Please do keep this date free – further information on the venue will be available soon.
REMINDER – Joint Schools Foundation Conference 2020
Thursday 13 February 2020
Please do register if you are working in Foundation education at trust level to guarantee your place at our first Foundation Conference. To view the agenda, visit here.
Post conference, we will make as many presentations available for those that cannot attend.
SWAPS – The process is currently being reviewed in consultation with the Post Graduate Deans – further information to follow.
Trusts are asked to ensure they inform the relevant school officer when a trainee exceeds 10 days of absence in an academic year. This is to ensure the school are able to arrange suitable support and, where needed, additional placements.
Remote prescribing call for evidence
Today the GMC are launching a call for evidence on remote consultations and prescribing via online, telephone or video. They are taking this step to understand whether the guidance - Good practice in prescribing and managing medicines and devices - needs to be developed further, given the fast pace of change in remote healthcare services.
Please share your views via our online survey tool before 18 February 2020; or contact us via email if you have any questions about our work in this area.
About our call for evidence
Remote consultations and prescribing can benefit patients who want flexible access to healthcare. However, there are potential patient safety risks, particularly when the remote healthcare provider is not their regular prescriber. In 2013, we expanded our guidance Good practice in prescribing and managing medicines and devices to give advice on remote consultations and prescribing. Since then, there has been a significant increase in the provision of remote prescribing and we want to make sure our guidance is keeping up with new developments.
Our call for evidence will ask for views on a number of topics including what good dialogue between doctors and patients looks like, how our guidance is applied in practice, and if any additional patient safeguards may be needed.
Working together to support safe remote prescribing
This is one of several measures we’re taking forward, in partnership with regulatory and quality improvement partners, to support safe remote consultations and prescribing. These include a joint statement with healthcare regulators and high level principles for good practice, co-authored and agreed by 13 healthcare organisations across the UK.
